I learned so many things about leadership from my mother, Deborah Curtis. Here’s her secret: She made sure that I learned from others as well. She passed away this spring, and it has taken me some time to reorganize my life so that I can leave my career consulting for the military to focus solely on my passions. She would have said “why wait?” but she would have also said “c’est la vie.” My mother had a habit – a skill even – for taking paradoxical positions on a subject.
My mother was a true believer that it “takes a village to raise a child…” and thanks to her I had so many other leaders in my life well before I headed to university….
